This project will create an industry reference framework for a digital twin-based solution leveraging 5G networks so that next-generation smart cities can simultaneously be built physically and digitally. By building a digital twin DevOps platform based on the open digital twin framework, communications service providers (CSPs) can provide an end-to-end solution for smart city construction and operation.

Constructing smart city infrastructure requires large investment but business models are still evolving. City developers need a more efficient way to plan and construct smart city infrastructure and applications. A digital twin that shows multi-dimensional urban spaces enables collaboration among partners involved in smart city planning, application development and construction.

Communications service providers (CSPs) have the opportunity to provide infrastructure and connectivity services in this scenario but can also jointly develop and build smart city applications with ecosystem partners by providing a digital twin-based platform. Participating in the development and management of future smart cities will unlock new revenue streams for CSPs.
