The ambition of this Catalyst is to define a unified API specification that is compliant with both TM Forum and MEF APIs to support the provisioning of inter-carrier services and global carrier interoperability. It will provide a technical solution to the recent agreement between MEF and TM Forum to align their respective APIs.
All communications service providers (CSPs) are interdependent and need to provision inter-carrier services to support roaming, SD-WAN and other global network services. But CSPs and vendors are conflicted by the desire to be both compliant with TM Forum Open APIs and compatible with MEF LSO Sonata APIs, which have the same purposes. There is industry demand for standards-based inter-carrier API-based interoperability.
This project aims to resolve this conflict by defining a unified API specification that is compatible with both MEF and TM Forum, along with its documentation and a reference implementation. This will offer a technical solution for CSPs, vendors and integrators and provide the basis for future global carrier interoperability. For example, CSPs will be able to service quotes and orders with MEF-specific payloads through TM Forum-compatible APIs.
Specifically, the Catalyst will demonstrate the ability for CSPs to host TM Forum-compliant API endpoints that can accept both TM Forum-generic and MEF-specific payloads to perform Product Quotes and Product Orders on carrier services.
